2017 Times Square subway bomber Akayed Ullah sentenced to life in prison

Akayed Ullah, 31, was sentenced to life in prison after setting off a bomb in the Port Authority subway station under Times Square in December 2017. Fortunately, the bomb didn’t work and the explosion didn’t hit anyone but Ullah. seriously injured. The federal prosecutor described his actions as “one of the few completed terrorist attacks in New York City since September 11th”. Ullah apologized in court and said, “I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that I am deeply sorry for what I did.” Judge Richard Sullivan didn’t have it, however. “Your behavior here is really hideous. You buckled up a bomb. You got on the subway and drove to the most crowded subway station at the most crowded time of the day, ”he said. “I think a life sentence is appropriate.” Prosecutors say Ullah is an ISIS sympathizer and has accepted a call from the extremist group to “target and kill New Yorkers.”
