6 Things You Should Know This Week In Meriden, Wallingford, Southington, Cheshire

Important information this week includes discussions and possible action on an agreement between a data center developer and the City of Wallingford, as well as a public hearing on spending on a new library in Southington.

In Meriden, the city council will consider appointing a replacement for Republican Josh Broekstra, who left the education committee last week.

1. Wallingford Data Center Agreement

Wallingford City Council is due to meet remotely on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to hold public hearings on the neighborhood aid program and an amendment to the Waste and Disposal Ordinance. The council is also expected to discuss and possibly approve the waiver of parking fees and the application, as well as an agreement with GotSpace for the construction of data centers. 2. Public hearing on the Southington Library Project

The finance committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday to approve $ 16.9 million for a new public library, demolish the old library, and improve the site. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the town hall hall on the second floor of the town hall.

3. Investments, BOE vacancy in Meriden

Meriden City Council will hold a virtual meeting on Monday evening. The session, which can be viewed on the city’s website https://www.meridenct.gov/, starts at 6.30 p.m. According to the agenda of the meeting, the council is expected to discuss and potentially adopt a resolution approving nearly $ 24 million in bonds for investment improvement projects and equipment, including city street and sidewalk improvements.

The council is also due to vote on a motion to approve the appointment of city resident Siobhan Bazinet to fill the seat of the education committee, which became vacant when Republican Joshua Broekstra resigned last year

4. Motorway billboards in Meriden

On Wednesday the planning commission meets in person in the council chamber of the town hall. The meeting starts at 6.30 p.m. According to the agenda of the meeting, the Commission will discuss a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance that would revise the language of the regulation in relation to additional signs and billboards. This revised wording, if adopted, would read: “Billboards must be spaced at least 750 feet horizontally from other billboards on the same side of the limited access road.”

5. Student awards, Wallingford school curriculum

The Wallingford Board of Education is scheduled to hold two remote meetings on Monday. At 5:30 p.m., the board is due to recognize student awards, including closing and greeting speeches from the high school, and meet in a private session to discuss collective agreements. At 6:30 p.m., the board’s teaching committee is due to discuss the adoption of the high and middle school curriculum and possibly resolve the temporary suspension of a summer school policy regarding eligibility due to COVID-19. 6th budget workshop for Cheshire

The Cheshire City Council will hold a budget workshop at 6:30 p.m., followed by a regular meeting on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The Budget Committee receives a report from the Waste Committee with estimates of the amount of waste the city will have to pay and contract negotiations on the fees the city will pay for its disposal.
