Interview: Andy Bird looks to remix Pearson’s fortunes | Business

ASa teenager in Manchester in the early Eighties, Andy Bird remembers nights at the Hacienda with great fondness. Forget Disney — it was times spent at the legendary club that were truly magical. “I’d do school, [a shift at] Sainsbury’s, get the train to Manchester and end up going to the Hacienda, which had just opened,” says Bird, who was born in Warrington in Cheshire and grew up in nearby Macclesfield.

“I led very much a 24-hour Party People life” — referencing the 2002 movie that charted the rise of the Manchester music scene. “It was just an amazing time — for pop music and everything,” he says.
