Primark and Ikea are among the top proposals to replace Cheshire Oaks’ Debenhams shop

CheshireLive readers have given their opinion on which store should replace the old Debenhams location in Cheshire Oaks.

Debenhams closed his Cheshire Oaks store on May 15 after the historic department store chain collapsed amid the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

The retailer has suffered a slump in sales in recent years as buyers turned away from traditional department store models.

Readers were divided on what to replace the site at the Ellesmere Port retail center.

Primark was one of the most popular suggestions, and many readers said it would be very convenient if the discount clothing chain opened in Cheshire Oaks instead of having to go further afield to places like Chester or Manchester’s Trafford Center.

Ikea has also been mentioned by dozens of readers who said they’d love to see the Swedish furniture giant move into the space.

What do you think the space should be used for? let us know

While other retail favorites like TK Maxx, Selfridges, and John Lewis were mentioned, some readers thought outside the box.

One reader thought it would be good to convert the space into a children’s play area while another suggested it could be converted into a “nice new hotel with leisure facilities”.
