Who are the most famous people in Cheshire?

FROM musicians to soccer players to athletes, Cheshire has produced its fair share of talented people.

Gary Barlow, Michael Owen, and Paula Radcliffe, to name just three, are all from the county.

Mid Cheshire is no stranger to famous faces, but how many can you name?

Knutsford – Elizabeth Gaskell

An English writer, biographer, and short story writer who shed light on the Victorian era, Elizabeth spent most of her childhood in Knutsford living with her aunt. She married in town before moving to Manchester.

She has her own memorial tower on King Street.

Michael Owen – Chester

Owen was born in Chester and his father even played for her.

Michael then worked for Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Liverpool and Manchester United. Not bad.

George Mallorey – Mobblerley

George, who grew up in a ten bedroom house on Hobcroft Lane, set out to be the first to reach the top of the world’s tallest mountain.

He had participated in the first three British expeditions to Mount Everest.

Unfortunately, George and his climbing partner Andrew Irvine died on the mountain before reaching the 8,849 m high summit.

Rupert Holmes – Northwich

Do you like pino coladas? Of course you. All the more so that David Goldstein or Rupert Holmes, as he is generally known, sang it.

Rupert, 74, had an illustrious career as a composer, singer-songwriter, musician, playwright, and author, who was born in Northwich before moving to New York at the age of six.

Harry Styles – Holmes Chapel

As its residents probably know all too well by now, Harry grew up in the village and worked for a bakery there.

Since then, the singer-songwriter has toured all over the world and has tried his hand at acting in recent years.

Devante Cole – Alderley Edge

Cole, son of Andy, is a footballer himself who was in the Manchester City books.

After moving to Bradford, Fleetwood and Wigan Athletic, he has just earned a move to Barnsley after a successful stint at Motherwell.

John Bishop – Winsford

We know you probably know, but of course John Bishop tops the list for Winsford.

The Liverpool-born comedian who moved to Winsford as a child and attended Willow Wood Primary School is another local who started a notable career in comedy, hosting, and more.

Middlewich – Craig McDean

For the British fashion photographer who shoots for high-end brands and celebrities like Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Aniston and more, it all started in Middlewich.

Craig attended Mid Cheshire College to study photography.
