Things to know this week include increased costs related to the Wallingford police station project, the diversion of the Mattabesett Trail on Chauncey Peak in Meriden, and a zoning amendment that would allow a Cheshire farm to host weddings and other events.
Also in Wallingford, the ARPA Applications Review Committee will begin its review of requests for federal funds.

1. Wallingford Town Council meets Tuesday
The Wallingford Town Council will meet Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers of Town Hall. On the agenda is the modification of an ordinance that approved funding for renovations of a former office building into the town’s new police station. The council is being asked to approve increases to the price.
2. Chauncey Peak trail diversion in Meriden
The Conservation Commission is scheduled to meet Wednesday at 6 pm in Room 131 of Meriden City Hall. The agenda includes a discussion of the trail diversion on Chauncey Peak due to excavation by the Suzio York Hill quarry.
3. Cheshire farm hopes to host weddings, other events
The Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing prior to its regular meeting Monday. Bishop Farms owner John Torello has requested a change in zoning regulations that would allow the farm to host weddings and other events. The hearing is scheduled for 7:30 pm in council chambers of Town Hall, 84 South Main St. The request is also on the agenda for the regular PZC meeting immediately following the public hearing.
4. Wallingford ARPA committee to meet
The ARPA Applications Review Committee will meet Wednesday at 6:30 pm at HUBCAP, 128 Center St., to begin its review of applications for the federal funds.
5. Meriden library building update, opening events
The Meriden Public Library Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet Monday at 4:30 pm at the library’s temporary location inside the Meriden Mall, 470 Lewis Ave. The agenda includes an update on renovations to the Miller Street building, as well as a separate discussion about opening events for the Miller Street building.
6. Wallingford education budget, school calendar
The Board of Education is scheduled to meet Monday at 6:30 pm in the Town Council Chambers. The board will be discussing committee reports, the 2023-24 school year calendar and more.
On Wednesday at 6 pm, at a virtual meeting, central office administrators will be answering questions regarding the proposed 2023-24 school year budget, along with presenting the food services budget.

7. Fair rent commission, fire board vacancy in Southington
Southington’s Town Council intends to appoint members to its Fair Rent Commission, a group formed following a state requirement.
It will be comprised of a local tenant, a local landlord and three homeowners.
Republicans hold a majority on the Town Council. They and Democrats wrote the ordinance establishing the fair rent group, which has powers to mandate rents and subpoena people and documents.
The council also plans to appoint a Board of Fire Commissioners member. While there is only one Democrat on the board, it’s unclear if a Democrat or an unaffiliated voter will be appointed to the position. Minority representation rules prevent a fifth Republican from becoming a member of the board.
The council meeting is planned for 7 pm on Monday, Jan. 23 at the John Weichsel Municipal Center, 200 N. Main St.
8. Ambulance service at Wallingford
The Wallingford Ambulance Committee will hold a special meeting Thursday at 9:30 am in room 315 at Town Hall to discuss the town’s ambulance service and rate schedules.
