Cheshire: Four businesses nominated for 2023 tourism awards

FOUR businesses in south Cheshire, all surrounding the Whitchurch border, are leading the charge for marketing awards in the county.

Combermere Abbey, in Combermere; BeWILDerwood Cheshire at Cholmondeley; The Lion in Malpas and Bradley Hall Rural Escapes, north of Tushingham, have all been nominated for the Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards 2022/23 with more than 50 businesses and individuals shortlisted across 16 categories.

BeWILDerwood Cheshire is in the running for Visitor Attraction of the Year, while Combermere Abbey is up for Small Service Accommodation Provider of the Year and Wedding Venue of the Year.

The Lion at Malpas is running for Pub of the Year and Small Serviced Accommodation Provider of the Year – pitching them against the Abbey – and Bradley Hall Rural Escapes is running for the Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year.

Nicola Said, commercial manager at Marketing Cheshire, praised the companies that had been nominated for the awards and thanked them for entering.

She said: “As always we’ve had a fantastic response to the awards, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to enter.

“These awards are our chance to get together and celebrate all of the excellence in our visitor economy here in Cheshire and showcase what we have to offer.”

Many of the winners will go on to represent Cheshire at national level at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2023, giving them the chance to showcase outstanding tourism on offer in the county.

Nicola added: “They also offer a chance for the winners to go on and shout about Cheshire at a national level at the VisitEngland Awards.

“Tourism and leisure is so important to our economy and these awards give us a chance to show just why so many people choose to come here.”

The awards will be held at Halliwell Jones Stadium, home of the Warrington Wolves rugby league team on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

Other nominees for the awards next year include Carden Park hotel and golf complex, which is close to Malpas, while the Ice Cream Farm – a popular destination for Whitchurch families – is also up for an award in the same category as BeWILDerwood, which faces further stiff competition against Chester Zoo and Jodrell Bank, among others.
