Chester relies on a new craft beer, wine and artisan spirit bar, while the popular taproom is being expanded

An independent bar and taproom opens in Chester, serving craft beer, wine and spirits from around the world.

The family-run homebrew tap, which has proven popular with its taprooms on the Wirral, is now set to expand with a new bar on Faulkner Street in Hoole.

The plans were presented to Cheshire West and Chester Council and asked for permission to convert the vacant retail space at 5 Faulkner Street into a “specialty bar for craft beer, wine and spirits”.

The council has now approved the plans and stated that the taproom would “complement” the area.

Emily Reed, Planning Officer at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said in her report, “The start of a drinking operation would complement the other uses along the street and not lead to an excessive concentration of non-A1 uses (retail) the other businesses on both Sides of Faulkner Strasse. Notably, there are also grocery stores and a small supermarket along Faulkner Street.

“In terms of decor, there are a number of residential units above the commercial units along Faulkner Street. However, there are examples of restaurants, pubs, and takeaways along the street so nightlife is already an element. “

Founded in 2017 in Oxton Village, Homebrew Tap offers a mix of local and international specialty beers, wines and artisanal spirits.

It was then expanded to include two more locations in West Kirby and New Brighton.

After owner Jack Harrison submitted plans for the new Hoole venue back in July 2020, he told CheshireLive that he was excited about the prospect of opening in the area.

He said, “We are excited to be opening our next taproom in Hoole as we love the history, charm and of course the wealth of Chester independent businesses.”

“The location we have chosen is perfect for homebrew and we are very excited to create a modern and welcoming space that the city’s residents can be invited to.”

The opening times of the new bar are daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
