The mayor of Moscow has announced that from June 28, all restaurants, cafes and bars in the city will only accept visitors who are fully vaccinated, have a new negative PCR test or have had Covid-19 in the past six months .

Mayor Sergey Sobyanin wrote on his blog that the situation with Covid in the capital is still very difficult.

“Over 14,000 seriously ill people are housed in hospitals. The health system must mobilize its full potential. “

Last week, the Moscow authorities introduced mandatory vaccination for some categories of the service sector and public service. This is already bearing fruit, said Sobyanin, as vaccination rates in Moscow have quintupled in recent days.

At the same time, it is important to ensure the functionality of the service sector, said the mayor.

The mayor emphasized that only officially generated QR codes can be used to access restaurants – and no paper certificates are accepted.

Moscow and one of the host cities of Euro 2020, St. Petersburg, are both experiencing an increase in infections.

Moscow has over 9,000 new cases a day on some days – a record since the pandemic began. The authorities assume that the vast majority of new cases are caused by the Delta variant.
