By the end of the lockdown, interest in campervan vacations in the UK has increased tremendously – with a 621% increase in funding for a model.
British vacationers are preparing for a summer of stays, according to new data from one of the UK’s leading auto finance companies.
The number of Volkswagen California RVs financed by VWFS increased 621% from Q1 2020 to Q1 2021.
Research shows UK vacationers are committing to domestic road travel this year as international travel has been restricted for several months.
According to VWFS data, almost half of Britons (47%) say they are likely to be heading to a vacation destination in the UK this summer, while more than a quarter of respondents (27%) say they are going to an overseas holiday destination later that year instead of another method of transportation.

People under the age of 45 are much more likely to travel to their chosen vacation spots at home and abroad. The VWFS Data Insights team found that 60% of those under 45 are satisfied with driving to a stay this summer, compared to just 38% of those over 45, while those under 45 are also twice as likely (43% ) go to a holiday destination overseas as over 45-year-olds (17%).
In addition, the VWFS study shows that we are a nation of navigation enthusiasts. Two thirds of Britons (65%) say they rely on technology when driving in a new place.
Millennials are most likely to need the help of a navigation device. 75% of 18- to 34-year-olds agree that they depend on one thing when traveling to a new destination. Only 44% of people over the age of 75 now state that they rely on a navigation device.
Comfortable seats were the most important feature for people on a road trip (40%), followed by sat-nav air conditioning (17%) (14%), a large trunk (11%) and a good media system (5%). .
