Peaky Blinders filmed its sixth and final season in Cheshire on Thursday.

The show’s director, Anthony Byrne, 45, took to Instagram to let his followers know that the work on the BBC show was “done and done and done” posed on the set at Arley Hall.

The TV mogul stood next to his assistant director Jon Midlane and cameraman Mathieu Plainfossé in the sunshine, clutching the show’s clapperboard as he said goodbye to the legendary series.

In the photo, the show’s clapperboard was adorned with a beautiful sketch of the late Helen McCrory, who tragically passed away last month at the age of 52 and played the show’s matriarch, Polly Gray.

Arizona Mimi Eastwood, the second assistant director, announced that filming had been over 86 days with more than two years of preparation time.

The sixth season of Peaky Blinders was shot again in January after the show had to be discontinued in March last year due to the coronavirus crisis.

While this is the show’s final season, fans may not have to mourn yet as the show’s writer has hinted that the story will continue in “another form”.

In a statement, Steve Knight said: ‘Peaky is back and with a bang. After the forced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, the family is in extreme danger and the stakes have never been higher.

‘We believe this will be the best show ever and we are sure our great fans will love it. As the TV series comes to an end, the story continues in a different form. ‘

32-year-old Sophie Rundle, who plays Ada on the show, was on Instagram last week to say goodbye to her beloved character.

The working mom told her fans:

The working mom told her fans, “It was the toughest and most challenging thing I’ve ever done, but it was worth finishing this crazy, brilliant show.”

Alongside a sweet moment when she changed her son’s diaper on set, she wrote: Four weeks after my son was born, I went back to work on Peaky Blinders.

“That’s me – sleep deprivation and a little madness when I change a diaper in my trailer between scenes.”

“It was the toughest and most challenging thing I’ve ever done, but it was worth ending this crazy, brilliant show and saying goodbye to this character I love so much.”

She continued, “To the Peaky cast and crew who welcomed me and my little one back to the herd and pretended not to notice my incredibly deep bags – thank you.

‘So long Ada. I will miss your wild Shelby gypsy heart, your attitude towards me and your fabulous wardrobe. It was a ride. ‘

Meanwhile, the show’s 45-year-old lead actor, Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby, told Men’s Health that it would be a strange feeling to say goodbye to your character.

He said, ‘It’s going to be very strange. I think if I stop, like in a couple of months, I will probably have to deal with the fact that I may not play it again. ‘

“I have to take care of it. But right now I’m just still there, ”he added.

Cillian also revealed how annoying it had been filming the final scenes without the late Helen McCrory, who played the show’s matriarch Polly Gray before she tragically died in April.

He said, “We are all still deeply saddened. I am deeply sad and am still trying to get over it. It’s hard to think about the show without her.

“She was a part of it so much and my favorite stories have always been the Polly / Tommy stories.”

The star also confirmed that the entire final season of Peaky Blinders would be dedicated to Helen.

Helen died at the age of 52 after a secret “heroic battle” with cancer, her husband Damian Lewis revealed last month.

The home star tweeted: “I am heartbroken to announce that the beautiful and powerful Mrs. Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home after a heroic battle with cancer, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.
