The Whitchurch Photographic Society was founded back in 1962 by a group of local photography enthusiasts looking to share knowledge and host events.

The group continues to this day in a diverse and changing format with like-minded members from all over Whitchurch and the surrounding area.

New members are always welcome to the group, said Secretary Richard Priestley, as they look forward to holding face-to-face meetings again in the months ahead.

He said, “We are a friendly group of people with many interests, ranging from beginners to seasoned photographers.

“We’d love to have new members. Despite our name, we actually have members from Whitchurch and Wem, and Market Drayton, South Cheshire and North Shropshire.

“The society covers quite a wide area. I think we have about 38 members now and we are very interested in having more.

“I suggest people look at the website and then contact us. We have internal and external competitions with other clubs, so there is a lot going on.

“We met on Zoom last year, which was actually quite successful. We hope to return to face-to-face meetings by September.”

During normal times, the group meets every Tuesday evening from September to May and monthly in the summer at the Seniors Club in Pearl Yard, Whitchurch.

Richard said the group has a full calendar of fun events, including both internal and external competitions with other clubs, lectures from guest speakers and club members, and hands-on photo sessions at Pearl Yard and other places of interest.
