Sir, Hugo Rifkind is correct (“Tories will suffer if they go cold on Net Zero”, comment, Jul 19). We support millions of people across the UK who are affected by lung conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and in our recent Alerting the Nation report, 77 per cent of those surveyed did not feel that the government was doing enough to protect them from the dangers of air pollution, which can be curbed under net-zero policies.
Climate change is already harming people’s lives and lungs — we all felt the heaviness of breathing the bubbling toxic soup of vehicle emissions and goodness knows what else in yesterday’s heat. This is quite simply an emergency that will have wide-reaching ramifications for
